Earth-resistance testing & earthing assessment

Earth-resistance measurements help assess an installed grounding system, but a reading must be interpreted in the context of the installation design, soil conditions, test method, bonding and the equipment being protected. PrimeEarth Solutions welcomes testing and assessment enquiries for industrial, commercial and solar applications in Gujarat, with scope agreed before work is scheduled.

Before you book a testing visit

  • Site city, facility type and access requirements
  • System type: earth pits, plant grid, solar PV, transformer area or other installation
  • Available drawings, previous test readings and inspection records
  • Number and location of test points, where known
  • Required report format, acceptance criteria and schedule

Choose the method for the site

Fall-of-potential testing and clamp-on methods serve different conditions and have different limitations. The appropriate method depends on the earthing arrangement, available access, parallel paths, test-point layout and the purpose of the measurement. A test should not be selected only because it is faster.

Lower resistance is not the sole measure of electrical safety. Protective-device operation, conductor impedance, touch and step voltage, bonding and the complete fault path may also matter. Interpretation should follow the project design and applicable requirements.

Agree what the report should record

  • The site, date and identification of the electrode or system tested
  • The measurement method, instrument identification and relevant site conditions
  • The test arrangement and distances where needed to interpret the result
  • The readings and the project acceptance basis used for assessment
  • Access limitations, exclusions and any further investigation recommended

Share previous reports where available so the team can assess whether results are comparable. Agree the required documentation before booking. Corrective work needs its own assessed scope; a reading alone is not a certificate for the whole installation.

Three methods, different site conditions

Fall-of-potential

Uses auxiliary probes and a suitable test layout. Available ground space and the system being measured matter when planning the visit.

Selective testing

Combines probes with a current clamp to distinguish an electrode within a connected arrangement. Suitability must be assessed for the installation.

Clamp-on loop testing

Requires a suitable parallel return path. It cannot establish an isolated electrode's resistance when that path is absent.

These are planning explanations, not instructions for connecting test equipment. Agree the method and any isolation with the responsible qualified team. Do not disconnect protective conductors yourself.

Service coverage

We prioritise enquiries from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Bharuch, Ankleshwar and other Gujarat locations. Site access, travel, test-point count and documentation requirements affect the schedule and quotation. Maharashtra enquiries can also be reviewed by location and scope.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a BOQ before asking about testing?

No. Start with the site city, facility type, known test points, available records and your timing. Say what is unknown. The required method, access and documentation can then be assessed before the scope and quotation are confirmed.

Can testing always be completed without a shutdown?

No shutdown-free method is promised. The installation, return paths, access and safe work arrangements determine what is suitable. The responsible qualified team should agree any isolation or operational restrictions before work is scheduled.

Can you guarantee a target earth resistance before testing?

No. Results depend on site conditions and the installed arrangement. The acceptance criteria should be specified for the project and evaluated using an appropriate method.

What is the difference between clamp-on and fall-of-potential testing?

They rely on different test conditions and are not interchangeable for every installation. The available earthing topology and the purpose of the measurement determine the suitable method.

Can you test a solar or industrial installation?

Send the site city, installation type, number of test points, available drawings/records and required report format so the scope can be assessed.
